Stayed with my partner for 5 nights on the orange floor. The beds were comfy for bunk beds and the vibe was a good, laid back vibe with friendly staff. Although the location is great, the facilities were terrible. Depending on your other bunkers, it is hard to cook with utensils being extremely worn out. They seem to have too many people for a small kitchen. If you make friends with your bunkers and roomies then it’s a pleasant experience. The fridges are the worst part being way too full and old food is left on almost every shelf. The staff are great for cleaning the bathrooms and hoovering (they do this at 7:30 by the way) but they don’t interact at all with the fridges causing a lot of mouldy food to appear. I will say that the security are good at on it with the rules and checking the place at 11pm. We oddly had a fire drill which was a bit inconvenient but that’s just luck of the draw.
Really loved my time being there. The staff was super friendly. Loved the offered daily events and even a late check in was no problem at all. They have also a pool table available and a big lounge area and another room where you could just sit and work or read a book. So definitely recommend!!!
Why should you stay at Trek Global? Its an easy decision really if you're looking for a great price for a central Wellington location that is easy to get to and from transport, ferry links, city attractions and night life. Trek is cleaned regularly throughout the day. Each floor comes with an equipped kitchen and 3 shower/toilet rooms which gives you privacy and space to get yourself ready. There is a real community spirit roaming the halls and dorm rooms, it's easy to make new friends, get involved in events or find quieter spaces if that's what you need. The community vibe is unlike anything I've experienced in other hostels I have stayed in and strikes the right balance of chilled out and occasional party hostel -with a curfew at 11pm to respect sleeping guests. The team go above and beyond to make sure you're listened to and requests are accommodated to the best of their ability and availability in the hostel. The team made my stay feel like a home from home rather than a typical hostel experience. There is a lot I can say from my 4 month stay at Trek - I feel like part of the furniture there- the best advice I can give is to book a room for a day - a week - 5 months and experience what Trek and Wellington have to offer for yourself, you'll understand why so many people want to stay long term and find it an incredibly hard place to move on from!
Thank you to the team for everything, you'll be missed!
A really good location with friendly, welcoming staff. However, I've stayed in a few hostels in my time and this ranked somewhere down the bottom. When we arrived early, we were free to use the facilities until our room was ready. However, the tiny kitchen was jammed with people and there was bird poop all over the dining tables. When we got to our room it was serviceable and very secure, but tiny. There were only two bathrooms with toilet, sink and shower in them for at least 12 rooms or about 30 people (I think). The kitchen was right outside the bedroom doors but most people were pretty courteous. However, each morning the cleaning staff started banging around at 7:30.
Initially I had high expectations for Trek. The prices were extremely fair and they even had a female-only floor. Then reality hit. I was told at check-in there was some painting being done upstairs. Alright. So I lug my suitcase up to find …

Best place for long-term travellers in Wellington. Staff genuinely care about every guest and go above and beyond to make your stay as good as can be. Large open communal spaces, clean facilities, lovely people. Different events on each night. Very thankful I chose to stay here & for all the amazing people I met.
